Brian Bauer
Brian P. Bauer is the Managing Partner of Bauer & Associates and has over 30 years of experience managing Information Technology, Sales, Services, Product Development, and Systems Integration teams in both large and small companies. He is both strategic in defining an IT Plan, as well as tactical by ensuring the correct resources are in place to execute the plan. He creates clear and compelling visions for corporate IT programs and communicates that vision in a convincing and organized manor. Prior to Bauer & Associates, Brian was the Vice President of Aerospace/Defense and Global IT Strategy, Operations and Infrastructure at Flextronics International. Brian led the IT organization during its rapid growth from $17B in revenue to a market leader of Manufacturing Services & Logistics with $33B in revenue. In addition, he led the information technology integration of 5 acquisitions per year; including an $11 Billion acquisition to form the world’s largest Contract Manufacturing firm. Brian built global IT application and infrastructure teams in APAC, EMEA, and has worked closely with government agencies securing tax and other financial incentives. He completed the certification of factories in the US to be ITARS and MIL-SPEC certified. Brian led the effort to cut annual IT Operating Expense from 1.5% to .7 % of Revenue.
Brian’s International IT expertise includes:
- IT strategy: portfolio review, global sourcing, & compliance (SOX, ITARS, ISO9000, AS9100, HIPAA, FDA, FAA)
- Manufacturing: Supply chain planning, inventory, purchasing, and shop floor control systems
- Infrastructure operations: security, call centers, data center operations, BCP, and networks (ITIL)
- Business Applications: ERP, B2B, Business Intelligence, HR, Finance (SEI/CMM)
- Mergers & Acquisitions: migration and rationalization of acquired companies’ IT systems and applications.
In addition to Flextronics, he has held executive level positions with companies in a variety of industries including Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), Interwoven, Cadence Design, United Airlines Fleet Operations, and Northrop Grumman. At HDS, Brian managed the Global Solutions & Services team driving the revenue from $150M to over $500M and margins from 15% to 33% Margins. He has developed and managed IT and Services teams in APAC, EMEA, and the Americas. Brian has significant subject matter expertise in Manufacturing, Aerospace/Defense, Oil & Gas, Healthcare, Government, and Logistics Markets.
Brian was a partner at Telos, the venture arm of Cadence Design, where he assisted in acquiring 5-10 companies per year. He is now a board advisor to Nextlabs and has served on the boards of Encentuate, nLayers, and Active Reasoning. He is also a frequent speaker on best practices for information technology, mergers and acquisitions. Working with the venture capital community, Brian is frequently engaged in performing due diligence on investments and acquisitions for early stage companies.
Brian holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from San Francisco State University. He also completed the course work for Master’s degrees in Operations Research at George Washington University, and Biomathematics at the University of California Berkeley. He has been a lecturer at MIT Sloan School MIS program as well as an adjunct Professor of Mathematics & Computer Science at Augustana College. Brian has lectured at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business on Information Technology Strategies. His clearances have included Top Secret (SCI), Secret from the US Intelligence community, Department of Defense, and US Senate.
